Lewis' Bonus Drop A Sign of Things to Come?
With the UK high street feeling the strain of increasing inflation, the threat of higher interest rates, consumer nervousness over Brexit and a government unsure of what life really holds after 2019, it was perhaps no surprise that one of the leading retailers announced yet another cut in their annual bonus payment to partners. Down to just 5% (the lowest since 1954), the signs are ominous for a further slowing down of retail sales and the almost certain collapse of more well known high street names.
