Africa: A Free-Trade Dream?
This week potentially signifies the end to Africa's turbulent economic times. With a free-trade agreement being signed creating a trading area stretching from Cairo to Cape Town and a potential market of some 1.2bn consumers the opportunities for economic growth and rising wealth and employment levels are enormous. However, in the past few days Nigeria have announced their intention not to attend the conference or to sign the agreement and so once again undermining efforts of the continent to drag itself out of its slumber and become the economic giant that its potential warrants.
