Passport Blues

The announcement earlier this week that the new British Passport would be manufactured by a French company took many by surprise but should it have done?  The supposed symbol of a newly independent Britain, freed from the shackles of European bureaucracy has become instead an ironic symbol of how life might be for British companies beyond Brexit in 2019.  Simply hoping that the word 'British' will secure trade deals is fanciful at best and ignores our commitments to current EU trading regulations but also those of the World Trade Organisation (a body we will continue to operate within after 2019).  The off-shoring of future deals will continue to occur whilst British companies remain uncompetitive and this should be the new focus for a post-Brexit society rather than a nod to misplaced nationalism.  [Click on image to read full article]
